Trench

April 1, 2010

It’s cold and dark out here
I’m all alone.

There are others scattered about
But for me I’m dodging and ducking.

Shouts, shots, and screams
are mingeling with smoke and debris.

I try to remain calm but
the others taunt and tease

pulling my hair out one by one
they stand and aim.

It smells of rot,
rot and death.

They test me
waiting for me to see if it’s over.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silence. Scares. Me.
I. Have. To. Look.
Clouds pretend to clear.
It’s a trap.
I remain in the trench,
I will not give up.
Sun rays are in the distance,
I sit and wait
dodging and ducking.
I sit back against the cold mud and I wait.
